Jason Sanders, Ivy Exec’s Vice President of Executive Search, recently interviewed Kasper Ulf Nielsen, Executive Partner at Reputation Institute. Reputation Institute is the world’s leading reputation management consultancy, enabling leaders to make more confident business decisions that build and protect reputational capital and drive competitive advantage.  The company is independently owned, founded in 1997 and operates in 30 countries.

Jason Sanders: In which area of your company do you expect the most growth over the next 12 to 18 months?

Kasper Ulf Nielsen: I expect to see growth in the consulting area where the demand for actionable advice within reputation is increasing. We see a growing interest from companies to begin their reputation journey where they need solid analytical insights which inform their business decisions.

Jason: What changes and challenges do you think your company and industry will see in the next 5 years?

Kasper: The demand for actionable advice will increase. Reputation Strategy is business strategy so our clients expect us to be able to link all the reputation expertise we have to their business. Companies who only provide research or static insights will not be around in 5 years.

Jason: What attracted you to Reputation Institute?

Kasper: Working with reputation is fascinating. We live in a reputation economy where decisions are based on the level of trust we have towards companies and people, and that is what reputation is all about. An emotional connection between customers and companies. So working for Reputation Institute who invented the discipline of reputation management is a great opportunity to be at the forefront of this new business frontier which will reshape the way companies organize and compete in the future.

Jason: What three words best describe your culture?

Kasper: Pioneering, rigorous, committed.

Jason: Which leadership qualities best ensure success at Reputation Institute?

Kasper: We are always creating new ideas and solutions for our clients so as a manager you need to be able to constantly reinvent the solutions and the processes we offer and work from. But at the same time you need to be able to create order in the chaos by having a clear vision and great teamwork skills to make people from our global teams work together.

Jason: What gets you excited about going to work each day?

Kasper: The fact that we are helping the largest companies in the world implement new ways of working which will not only secure their reputation but also improve their business

Jason: What is the biggest misconception that you encounter about the consulting industry?

Kasper: That consultants don’t really care about their clients. After the project is over they just move on. At Reputation Institute we have long standing relationships with our clients and we follow them through their personal careers as they develop through the reputation journey.
